Why should you give?
In 2006...
Visibility for Eating Disorders: Along with our member organizations
nationwide, the EDC worked to bring attention to eating disorders, resulting
in unprecedented coverage in newspapers, magazines, the Internet, and on the
airwaves.
Eating Disorders Dream Bill: The EDC found sponsors for the Eating
Disorders Dream Bill. The bill will be introduced in Congress in 2007 and
will promote research, education, and treatment programs.
Statistics: The EDC convinced Congress to urge the government to
start counting the number of people with eating disorders. Now we're working
to make sure that the government is responding!
Prevention: The EDC convinced Congress to ask the government to
expand the only federally funded prevention program for eating
disorders.
EDC Lobby Days: The EDC hosted two lobby days in 2006,
bringing eating disorders awareness to members of Congress.
Eating Disorders Memorial Quilt: The EDC launched the Eating
Disorders Memorial Quilt during the National Eating Disorders Association
conference. The quilt was visited by hundreds of conference participants,
including many of the families and friends who contributed panels.
Worldwide Charter for Action on Eating Disorders: The EDC and the
Academy for Eating Disorders launched the Worldwide Charter for Action on
Eating Disorders in Washington, D.C. with a press conference featuring THREE
members of Congress. The charter was mailed to all 535 members of Congress.
New Relationships: The EDC developed new relationships with
elected officials, educating members of Congress who helped us in 2006
and have pledged their support for 2007. We worked with dozens of
reporters and editors, and we welcomed several new eating disorder
groups to the Coalition.
What Makes Us Different?
We focus on Washington, D.C., and the federal response to eating disorders.
We work with Congress, the federal government, the media, and others. From
our office across the street from the U.S. Capitol complex, we call
attention to the Americans struggling and dying from anorexia, bulimia,
binge eating, and related disorders.
